As the 40 x 20 season draws to a close, the handball action this week focuses on the All Ireland semi -finals between the Leinster and Munster champions and on the Juvenile team finals. Kilkenny will look on adding more Juvenile titles after winning six championships at the same venue a few weeks ago.

In the adult semi-finals Kilkenny will be involved in five contests against their Munster counterparts. Three of these matches are scheduled for Clogh on Sunday where Kilkenny are involved in three overage matches against Tipperaray and Limerick. In the first match at the North Kilkenny venue, Ducksie Walsh and DJ Carey play Tipperary’s David Moloney and Martin McInerney in the Masters A grade. This contest is followed by the Diamond Masters B Doubles match between Kilkenny’s Joe Anthony and Gerry Murphy and Limerick’s John Joe Fahy and Pat Hennebry, and to round off the programme, Johnny Brennan and Joe Hennessy face another Shannonside pair, Tommy O’Brien and Donal O’Connor in Emerald Masters, in what should be a close affair.

Travelling to Munster venues for their semi-finals are the Leinster champions in Intermediate Doubles and O35B Doubles. In Liscarroll, Cork on Saturday, Ciáran Neary and Brendan Burke take on local pair Shane Hedigan and Donnacha O’Dea in the Intermediate grade, and on Sunday in Cashel, John Morrissey and Noel Doherty play Tipperary’s Kevin Dempsey and Paul Mullins in an O35B Doubles clash.

On Saturday in Kingscourt the All Ireland semi-finals and finals of the Juvenile team events are down for decision. Kilkenny made a clean sweep of Leinster titles when defeating Wexford in all three competitions, Boys U12/13, U14/15 and U16/17.
