A chara,

Please note the following updates from GAA Handball...

The GAA Handball Show series on TG4 continues to attract a large audience and will continue again on Monday night 17th January at 8.30pm with a review of action from the Italian Federation Cup, The GAA Handball All Ireland Hardball and Softball 60x30 Championships as well as the latest in the series of clubs and schools features (Moylough/Mountbellew HC and St. Jarlath's Vocational School, Mountbellew). • The 2011 GAA Handball All Ireland Open Senior 40x20 Championships (Mens and Ladies, Singles and Doubles) will be commencing in just over 5 weeks time and entry forms have now been distributed to all county officials. Anyone wishing to enter this year's championships can do so by completing the attached forms and returning with entry forms to the address shown. Please note however, that entry forms must be signed by the County Secretary in order to be validated.

• Provincial 40x20 Championship fixtures are already underway and details of these can be found on the official site

• All players should note that they must complete, sign and return the International Competition Form if they plan to play in any event outside of Ireland. This must be received prior to travelling to the event and would be essential in relation to being covered under the Player Injury Scheme when competing abroad. These forms are also available from the downloads section above.

GAA Handball Congress 2011 will take place in Kells, Meath over the weekend of Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th March and details of this has now been sent to all county officials together with nomination and rules/motions forms. Further details will follow.

• The latest promotional event for ladies handball in Ireland, the Girls Only Handball (GO Handball) tournament proved to be an excellent success in Mayo venues over the course of last weekend. This is one of many promotional initiatives that GAA Handball will be embarking upon in the year ahead and are delighted again by another successful initiative in bringing new players and ladies into the sport.

The 2012 World Handball Championships, to be hosted in Ireland, is now just 15 months away and, with a lot of work already carried out in relation to the branding of the championships, GAA Handball will now be putting in place a series of Sub-Committees in relation to the organisation of this eagerly awaited event. I would now ask anyone who is interested in putting forward their name in relation to taking up a role on one of the sub-committees listed below to do so by email by no later than 5pm on Friday 28th January 2011.
